Helen McClure, DLP candidate for Ginninderra
Labour DLP candidate for Ginninderra.
Hi, I am Helen McClure and I’m standing as a candidate for the Democratic Labour Party (Labour DLP) in Ginninderra (Belconnen).
My policy priorities are in the areas of strengthening the family unit, ensuring fairness and more parental control over education funding, improving disability support and lowering rates for low income earners.
With regards to my background, I moved from Tamworth to Canberra in 1992, to study at ANU, where I met and later married Ian, my husband of 28 years. We raised our 3 children, who have been home-schooled by me, and have also helped to provide nurturing care and support to a number of children, as foster parents over many years.
After completing a Degree in Linguistics and a Graduate Diploma in East Asian Studies, I worked for some time in the federal public service before devoting myself to the raising of our children.
If elected in Ginninderra, I would additionally want to work on the implementation of the recommendations of the ‘Our Booris, Our Way’ Review, which aims at giving our Aboriginal community organisations, the ability to determine how Aboriginal children are cared for in their communities.
