DLP STATEMENT AGAINST THE ALP SUBSERVIENCE TO CHINESE EXPANSIONISM
Labour DLP directly opposes and commits to reverse Daniel Andrews’ secretive and foolish decision to sign up to the Belt and Road Initiative.
The ALP decision brings incrementally nearer the very real threat of a Chinese empire stretching across south-east Asia, in the name of the increase of global trade which is itself a dubious goal. Labour DLP opposes the extremes of the capitalist global market and the injustice, insecurity and environmental damage that reliance on global markets can cause.
Labour DLP retains the true spirit of the labour movement and we do not believe in closing our eyes as a nation to the conditions of workers in other countries, including China. Before celebrating the cheap labour China provides, we believe in making sure it is not produced at the cost of human lives or human dignity in the workplace.
Instead of secretive deals with a totalitarian communist superpower, Labour DLP believes in promoting local industry, local manufacturing and local creativity. We know that Australians have the resourcefulness to produce things we need and can be proud of, whilst trading internationally in a manner that is modest, fair and sustainable.
We oppose the signing of the Belt and Road Initiative and commit instead to benefit Australia’s own industries and to maintain Australian sovereignty.
It’s for reasons such as this that the DLP is standing in 23 lower house seats in an attempt to throw out the Andrews government and let all Victorians know that the original Labour Party still exists.
