“The DLP condemns the Morrison Liberal Government’s betrayal of voters by breaking its 2019 election promise to pursue only modest emissions targets.
Further, the DLP opposes any international ‘emissions reduction’ agreements
that allow Communist China to keep increasing its emissions and rejects the Liberal Government’s ‘zero net emissions by 2050’ target as an industry wrecking threat to our economy.”
– Motion passed by the DLP Federal Executive, Thursday 4 November 2021.
At the 2019 election, PM Scott Morrison said the ALP’s plan for a 45% emissions cut would cost hundreds of thousands of jobs and cripple the economy. The Liberals went to the people promising only modest emission reduction targets and were elected on the basis of that commitment.
Now suddenly, the Morrison government has reneged on its promise to the Australian people, and using undisclosed “modelling,” is claiming that a 100% emissions cut will somehow boost the economy! The DLP condemns completely this about face and the adoption of this radical left wing agenda by a supposedly “Liberal” government.
We contend that the UN Glasgow Climate Summit was always going to be nothing more than left-wing virtue signalling and PM Morrison’s participation was a shameful act for a so-called conservative. Shrill claims of a “climate emergency” and “last chance to save the planet” from radical climate activists are clearly absurd when the world’s worst polluters, including Communist China, don’t attend reductions talks and openly declare they have no intention of reducing their emissions in the foreseeable future.
We contend that there is no useful purpose served by Western nations trying to cut their own emissions to the point that they damage their own economies when China continues to build new coal fired power stations every month and continues to increase its emissions output.
Claims that “renewables” are cheaper than coal power are also blatantly false. Wind and solar power are vastly more expensive than coal and much, much less reliable. Likewise, giant batteries are hugely expensive fantasies that provide power to large areas for only a few minutes. Huge taxpayer funded subsidies have been applied to wind and solar and massive costs and taxes applied to coal fired power to try to conceal the uneconomic nature of “renewables.”
Universally, countries such as Germany and Britain that have already tried to implement the sort of plan the Morrison Liberal government has in mind have found power costs going through the roof and dangerous blackouts as supplies fail, forcing them to fire up traditional power sources again.
Most ridiculous is the fact that Australia is involved at all, given that our emissions constitute only 1% of global output and Australia’s Chief Scientist has admitted in Senate Estimates that even reducing our emissions to zero will have absolutely no effect on global emissions levels as China, Russia and India are increasing their output by more than that every year!
The DLP contends that in reality, the effect of a “zero emissions” target for Australian industry and the Australian people is a potential disaster. As power costs spiral and reliability plummets with the rollout of “renewables,” not only will consumers face much higher power bills and blackouts, but both primary and secondary Australian industry will be dealt a body blow. High power costs mean that what manufacturing industries we have left will be driven to the wall and there will be no prospect of re-industrialising to allow national self-sufficiency and economic security.
But in addition, primary production will be crippled by increasing bans on tree clearing and a requirement that farmers stop cultivating part of their land to provide “carbon offsets.” We may very well find ourselves with food shortages in a few years! The only real beneficiaries are “woke” corporations and left-wing billionaires who have invested heavily in “renewable” technologies and carbon capture industries and stand to make vast fortunes from the billions of taxpayer dollars proposed to be pumped into them in government subsidies.
If Western nations massively increase their power costs and decrease supply reliability, but Communist China does not, we will cripple the West’s remaining manufacturing industries and make us even more vulnerable to an increasingly hostile China. Little wonder that the UN, at Communist China’s behest, continues to push Western countries alone to abandon cheap and reliable power sources.
